Most people have heard of “no shave November,” but the Rochester Police Department is giving the phrase a whole new meaning. Throughout the month of November, members will be participating in a Beards for Bucks fundraiser in order to raise funds for 13thirty Cancer Connect and Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Under normal circumstances, the Rochester Police Department prohibits beards of any sort, but Chief Ciminelli was willing to make the exception.
Captain Anthony McMullen of the Rochester Police Department has been a huge inspiration to his department as well as his community. Captain McMullen was diagnosed with brain cancer back in 2009; having survived such a tough battle, he is now choosing to use his strength to help others.
It was only by chance that officer McMullen was introduced to 13thirty Cancer Connect, an organization that helps teens and young adults ages thirteen to thirty, in the battle against cancer. He decided to use the funds raised to help these patients, as well as to assist with cutting edge research right here at Roswell. So far, the Rochester based team entitled “Locust Club Beards”, has already surpassed their original goal of $10,000. With so many people on board, the team now hopes to reach $15,000.
